Fonfuka Municipality is located in the Bum Sub Division of the Boyo Division, North West Region of Cameroon. It lies between latitudes 10° 8' and 10° 32' East and longitudes 6° 23' and 6° 39' North of the equatora is characterized by undulating hills, valleys, and plains with a varied climate, including a rainy season from March to October and a dry season from October to March . The togy of the region offer great potential for agriculture, particularly in rice farming, and tourism in the Kimbi Game Reserve. The lnment system was introduced by Lord Lugard in 1894, with Southern Cameroon being part of Nigeria at the time. Over the years, the administrative structure changed, with the Fonfuka Municipality becoming part of the Fundong Rural Council until 1996, when it was officially established as an independent council .
The main ethnic group, the Bum people, speaks the Bum language. Other ethnic groups such as the Aku, Hausa, Fulani, Nso, Oku, Nkanchi, and Wimbum have also settled in the area .
The Cameroon People's (CPDM) has historically dominated the municipal council elections, although the Social Democratic Front (SDF) gained control in 2002 before the CPDM reclaimed leadership in the subsequent elections .
The municipality is predominantly composed ofople. Other significant ethnic groups include the Fulani (Mbororo), Aku, Hausa, Nso, Oku, Meta, Bafut, Kom, and Awing, who have settled in the area over time.
